right ear

Posted on August 20, 2010 with 0 comments
Ok I have a issue with my right ear which means i have to postpone the Poland recording sessions. I got  103db white/noise hash in the ear through an inner ear monitor and for two weeks have had to put up with extreme sensitivity in this ear and ringing. An appointment with an ENT consultant is next. At the moment I can't even play the guitar cos it irritates the ear. I walk around with an ear plug to protect it and the world is mono! Hopefully it is healing.

My fav track is Eclipse Has Gone. This takes me right back to the dark night when I recorded the wind outside the barn. The gale was blowing and you can hear it if you listen. It has also has an epic quality that reminds me of Pink Floyd. My dream is to play this song one day at a big festival with a full band, or even a small orchestra. I could just loop the vamp at the end. I find it mesmerising. It even makes me want to dance like a wild shaman. Perhaps I could do a whole set just this song. Anyway I get lost in the end of it....and drift...

pro-studio singing

I had a go at singing standing up in a pro-studio wearing headphones. This is very different to sitting on the floor of a barn at 3am. It didn't sound like me on the studio speakers, but like someone else singing flat! There must be a way to make this jump, but I have heard that some singers don't like headphones as well...anyway heading back to the place I know and I have a new song....called "Breath of Old"

Lyrics something like

"He promised love forever
She wanted flelds of gold
They're lost in the perfect heather
They felt the breath of old..."

worked out the password? (it's the word spelt wrong on the CD) if so the free MP3 is here http://folkwit.com/if/ - the user name is (original this..) "ifwen"

http://folkwit.com/if/

If you own the Digipack of If Wen's debut album there's a free download of the track "out of Tune" which is the B side of the Love Letters single. Take a look at the writing around the edge of the CD and you'll eventually spot a word that is spelt wrong. It might take a while though, because we missed it before the print run! Once you have the word, then go to www.ifwen.com (oh you are already here!) and follow it through the site to get to the free download.
